Real Madrid Eliminate PSG As Liverpool Ease Into Champions League Quarter-Finals
Paris Saint Germain crashed out of the Champions League on Tuesday night at the hands of Real Madrid, a result that has implication beyond the field of play.
Goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Casemiro, either side of Edinson Cavani’s strike, gave Madrid a 2-1 win at Parc des Princes and a 5-2 aggregate triumph in the last-16 encounter.
The result will not just leave PSG hurting on a sporting level, but also in the pocket. Elimination comes at a high price.
A 5-2 aggregate victory hardly does justice to the French champions’ fine showing in the opening hour of the first leg of this tie. But the ease of Real Madrid’s ultimate victory speaks volumes not just for their own champion poise, but for the difficulty of combining dreams of European dominance with the room temperature French league.
PSG is expected to miss out on the €6.5m figure that UEFA award to the eight quarter-finalists. And that figure does not take in to account the loss of sponsorship, gate receipts from at least one more sell-out at home, and other commercial income.

Liverpool 0-0 Porto (5-0 agg): Jurgen Klopp’s side ease into Champions League quarter-finals
Liverpool booked their spot in the Champions League last eight despite an underwhelming performance against Porto.
The Reds’ lacklustre performance hardly mattered, though, after a devastating 5-0 win in Portugal three weeks ago all-but secured a first appearance in the last-eight since 2008-09.
